Jon Kabat-Zinn is Professor of Medicine emeritus at the University of Massachusetts and the founder of mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR). This book is one of his many books about mindfulness and meditation. In Wherever You Go, There You Are, Jon Kabat-Zinn maps out a simple path for cultivating mindfulness in our lives, and awakening us to the unique beauty and possibilities of each present moment. He guides us in how we can use mindfulness meditation to relieve emotional and physical pain, reduce stress, anxiety and panic and help improve health and relationships and much more. The book is a joy to dip into or read from cover to cover and can be enjoyed by those who are new to meditation as well as long-term practitioners. This course will follow Jon Kabat-Zinn's book over 6 sessions over the months of April, May and June. There will be a discussion of a section of the book each session and 2 guided meditations. The meditations will be recorded for home practice. You will need to obtain a personal copy of the book so you can read the relevant sections to be discussed in each session. The course will run on 6 Friday afternoons from 15:30 to 17:00 UK time on: Friday April 28 , May 12, May 19, June 2 , June 9 and June 16 You may attend in person or via zoom. All fees will be donated to the DEC charities and their local partners working with locally-led relief efforts in Turkey (now known as Türkiye) and Syria to provide relief for the population impacted by the earthquakes. Immediate priorities are search and rescue, medical treatment for the injured, shelter for those who have lost their homes, heaters for spaces and winter kits with blankets, and warm clothes, and ensuring people have food and clean water.
